Friends of Susan is an independent association of people who want to help fund life saving cancer research that is threatened because of government cutbacks. These cutbacks will reduce the availability of drugs and knowledge necessary to treat all types of cancer in their lifetime. Forcing them to wait patiently is the same as saying that there is little hope for them to conquer the diseases that are taking their lives away.
Researchers agree that early detection of cancer is the key to controlling the growth of the disease. Determining the markers that will predict the type, growth rate and strength of all forms of cancer is the best strategy for patients and health care professionals as they decide on which treatments to use to battle this disease.
Friends of Susan is funding cutting edge research to find those markers now.
Dr. Thomas Kipps, and his team at University of California at San Diego, are leading the National Consortium of researchers looking for those markers in human blood. They have found some of the markers but they would like to work faster to save many patients suffering today with Leukemia, Lymphoma, Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer and all other forms of this life altering disease.
The main reason they are not identifying more of the markers today is a lack of funding for their research.
To find these markers they need to fund more of the best scientists in the world, and support them as they unlock the inner most workings of how cells mutate and turn healthy people into victims of uncontrollable cancers. With diminishing funds from the government, the battle for controlling cancer in our lifetime is not being won.
All of us, who have had our lives touched by cancer, know that supporting this research will save us and our loved ones from ever having to lose another family member.
Your donations to Friends of Susan do two important things– It provides the money needed to fund cutting edge research and it sends a message to our Government.
This is a message that can’t be ignored any longer. We want a cure for cancer and we WANT it now.
